Eberron: An Age to Come

Arch 2: Chapter 9 part 1: Shadowfelled
Malvaius Kaazalani: Into the Darkness

With Ruusdah Khan now face down in a growing pool of blood, the Rustic Swords made their way into the basement of the Red House. After expertly navigating house’s interior, with only a few skirmishes and at one point going back up a set of stairs, the company finally found the magically sealed door deep below. The group proceeded into a large portal chamber and opened a portal into Dolurrh and stepped into the darkness.

On the other side of the portal was a maze of ruined towers and buttresses of a once great fortress. Off in the distance we could see lush green forests, but more immediately a huge cloud of death and evil roaming the walkways that lay ahead. Amidst a close encounter with the cloud being, the group entered another portal taking them inside a large puzzle chamber filled with dead bodies and statues of the Devourer. The walls seeped with necrotic ooze and nightmarish deaths awaited trespassers behind every misstep.

Puzzles beyond puzzles frustrated and challenged the group and they pressed onward through this insidious tomb of horrors crafted by some clearly deranged wizard. The group painstakingly made their way into a series of caves where rivers of necrotic ooze collected in a massive pool, and eventually found passage into a large cave opening.

Arch 2: Chapter 8 - Cut off the head
Malvaius Kaazalani: The Road to Dolurrh

After resting a night in the Whitehearth facility, we prepared to head back to our caravan and onward with our mission. As we made our way back out of the Mournland, the medusa and her master reappeared and spoke with a member of our group. After a short conversation about the Forge of Dominance, the Lord of Blades and the city of Making, he and his companion departed to travel with Dommon.

After rejoining our caravan at the Gathering Stone, we soon departed for the capital city of Rhuukan Draal. We arrived unscathed, despite several small skirmishes with a band of minotaur bandits along the highway, and witnessed the truth of many bloody rumors we had heard so far. Bodies of dead Kek Volaar men, women and children lined the road entering the city. A section of clearly poor houses around the city’s palisade wall was intentionally torched, leaving a barren section of earth outside the walls.

After securing an inn room, and leaving a message for Jarel as instructed, we meet with a priest of Vol named Sharoad. He informs us that the portal to Dolurrh is in a chamber in the basement of the Red House behind a single magic door. The key to this magic door is hanging around the neck of Ruusdah Khan, the bloody scourge of the Kech Sharaat trying to prove himself a worthy heir of Lhesh Haruuc. He also informs us of a back door to the Red House, that has a lapse in it’s guard due to the war across Darguun.

After speaking with the priest, and learning that Ruusdah Khan is no ally of Jarel, we prepare to infiltrate the Red House. First stop, the House Phiarlan costume shop? After a brief shopping trip, and then oddly buying no costumes, we make our way into the Red House and find Ruusdah Khan in his chambers, with a small contingent of personal guards.

During a brief moment of respite in the battle with Ruusdah Khan, he momentarily yields and speaks with us, trying to determine who we are and why we’ve come to kill him. With some poorly chosen wording, we divulged our intention to enter the portal, and that the magical door in his basement was actually a portal to Dolurrh. Before his death, Ruusdah Khan mocks us by telling us of an enchantment that was placed on the Red House, letting everyone in the building hear our conversation about the portal and our intentions. Hopefully he is bluffing…

Arch 2: Chapter 7 - Into the Mournland
Malvaius Kaazalani: The Rustic Swords

After a group of human and elf mercenaries met with Jarel and agreed on their contract terms, we set out to Rhukaan Draal to find the portal we were told about. After a few days on the lightning rail, we joined a caravan waiting for us in Sterngate to continue into Darguun. The caravan was heavily guarded, despite the journey being uneventful.

The hobgoblin in charge of the caravan decided to take a few days to trade at some formation the goblins call the Gathering Stone. The caravan seemed more interested in trading than reaching their destination at that point, but the other mercenaries seem far less interested. After briefly perusing the market, our company was instantly more intrigued with tales of Cyran weapons facilities and arranged passage to the edge of the Mournland.

After braving the dense, deathly mist, and a brief skirmish with some wandering souls, Leo Beretta recognized some rock formations and led us to the gates of the secret Whitehearth facility. Nobody questioned the man as he led us into an oddly alive valley, but we were not the only ones looking to raid this facility.

After a brief conversation with a medusa serving Dommon, mostly about why we killed her elemental excavation team, we let her and her team of warforged finish gathering the papers they had come for. After her team left, we discovered another room they overlooked with an ancient giant’s skeleton in a tube that once contained a large amount of magical fluid that somehow helped transfer magical energy. Around the base of this large container are markings of a rising sun over the symbols of House Kundarakk, House Cannith and House Orien. In a nearby desk drawer are notes for a new and advanced “Dominance” class of warforged.

After scooping up a few vials of fluid, we rested in the ruins for the night and prepared to head back to the Gathering Stone in the morning.
